The American Revolution

What does George Washington’s involvement with the Battle of Long Island have to do with Thomas Paine’s frequent visits to the now historical landmark, Fraunces Tavern? Did the African Burial Ground really have connections to Alexander Hamilton’s engagement with the Bank of New york. All of these important events and important figures in history were either before the American Revolution, during the war or later effected by it.

The events mentioned above connect between 1775-1776. The first major battle in the American Revolution War was of course the Battle of Long Island, where George Washington was placed as Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army. Even though the Continental Army lost that battle, they later gained back the lost with winning the war.

You can later read from the essays posted above how the Fraunces Tavern was a place of business that played a prominent role in the pre – Revolution and American Revolution history. Thomas Paine was an English American Political Activist, author and revolutionary who influenced this countries government in various ways.

Even though Alexander Hamilton is already widely known as one of the Founding Fathers of the United States and chief of staff to General George Washington, not everyone knows of his involvement with the Bank of New York and the first market crash.

Where does the African-American Burial fit in all of this you say? Many know it as a monument containing the remains of more than 400 Africans buried during the late 17th and 18th centuries. But did you know of the freedom offered to the slaves who left their masters by the British during the American Revolutionary War?

If you would like to know more about the events and historical figures mentioned above then you have come to the right place.
